Ever since I was a kid, whenever anyone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always said, "I want to be an author and illustrator." Though I could barely form the words, the weight of their truth remained with me through the years.

I used to spend hours upon hours writing stories, accompanying them with illustrations on each page. When most kids were grounded from playing outside or visiting friends, I was grounded from writing. My parents used to have to take away my floppy disks (remember those?) just to get my head out of the clouds long enough to complete my homework. (It didn't work.) Little did they know, I still kept copies of the disks and printed copies of my stories so I could write with a pen on the sly. (So rebellious.)

Following high school, I was left with a treasure-tome of hundreds of pages of incomplete books, uncounted chapters leading to nowhere, binders and binders of outlines and notes, portfolios and sketchbooks of characters and illustrations, and dozens and dozens of discarded ideas... But now for the first time in my life--from beginning to end--I have actually FINISHED a story!

The script for my graphic novel BLIND FOLLIES: The Flower and Death is finished!

Two-hundred-and-seven planned comic pages; fifty-five pages of typed text; seven total chapters; one script...

Words can't describe what it feels like to see the full arc in its entirety. I also can't say how daunting it is looking ahead at the world of work that waits for me. But I am all the more excited for the journey now that I have the road map! It's bound to be a long learning process. Wish me luck!
